Allen Gainer began his head coaching career with the Warhawks in 1998 after 5 years as Mark Cornelius' assistant at Shelton State. In that time, Gainer has twice been named Southern Division Coach of the Year (2011, 2012) and once named Region Coach of the Year (2012). He has coached a Region MVP (Darrell Moore, 1999) and an NJCAA All American (Turmonte Ragland, 2012), along with a host of all Region and all Division selections. As a math instructor at the college, Gainer believes that education is the key to opening the door for a successful future for his players, and stresses that academics and being a positive role model are essential to being a team member.
Gainer is originally from Demopolis, Alabama, where his family (mother, Levinia; sister Angela; niece, Stella) still reside. After high school, he attended Clarke College in Newton, Mississippi and played basketball under Ricky Lindsey. After graduating from Clarke, he transferred to the University of Alabama and received a BS and MS in Math Education.
