2022 will be Coach Steven Dickey’s 9th season at the helm of the volleyball program.  He is a native of Jackson, Miss., where he was selected Jackson Metro Baseball Player of the year in 1981.  He went on to play at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., and then at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., where he graduated earning a Bachelor of Education degree.  Upon graduation from Mississippi College, Dickey went to work at the Vicksburg YMCA where he organized an adult club volleyball team and began hosting tournaments, as well as, playing in tournaments in the Southeast, even participating in the YMCA National Championship in 1995.  In addition to his indoor background, he has won numerous 2-person outdoor sand and grass tournaments in both Mississippi and Louisiana.

During Coach Dickey’s tenure at the college, he has had 10 All-State players and 6 NJCAA All-Academic Team members.  The graduation rate of CACC-East players ranks among the best in the ACCC.  Coach Dickey stresses the importance of being productive members of society and incorporates the principles of integrity, honesty, responsibility, and respect into the program and expects the very best of his players on and off the court.

Coach Dickey is married to the former Belinda Upchurch of Vicksburg, Miss., and they have two sons, Wes, and Caleb, who both played baseball at CACC-East (formerly Jefferson Davis Community College).  Caleb is married to the former Lauren Pierce who was a player on Coach Dickey’s inaugural team in 2014.

Coach Dickey and his family moved to Brewton in 2008 as he assumed responsibilities as CEO of the Brewton Area YMCA.  He has since retired from the YMCA and enjoys devoting even more time to the program.  In addition, Coach Dickey has started a local club volleyball team for local players to help promote growth in the area and provide quality instruction and competition for younger players.
